The Somers Tuskers went 2-1 last week, beating Roy C. Ketcham and Arlington, but they suffered their first loss of the season to Our Lady of Lourdes.

Somers, which is ranked No. 2 in New York State in Class A, beat Ketcham 3-0 on Oct. 1. Senior captain Carolyn Casey scored two goals and junior Nicole Anes, who returned from an injury, netted one. Junior Melissa Righetti, junior Shoshana Bedrosian, and freshman Melina Couzis each had one assist. Senior goalkeeper Justine Huber had 10 saves.

Somers lost to Lourdes 1-0 on Oct. 3 for its first loss of the season. Somers took 19 shots, but couldn’t score. Huber had nine saves.

“We outplayed them but just couldn’t get the ball in the net,” junior captain Michelle Wienecke said. “The feeling after that game was awful and no one wants to feel that way again.”

On Oct. 5, the 8-1 Tuskers grinded out a 3-2 victory over host Arlington.

Arlington took a 1-0 lead in the first half, but Somers rallied, scoring three goals in the second half.

“At halftime we realized that we were losing and we needed to step it up,” said junior Jessica Rosenblum, who had one goal and one assist. “That motivation led to our three quick goals.”

Sophomore Hannon Eberts and Righetti also scored a goal. Huber had five saves.

Somers takes on John Jay-East Fishkill on the road on Oct. 9, and travels to Roy C. Ketcham on Oct. 11.
