Somers Library 5K Trail Race and 1-Mile Family Fun Run

The Somers Library Foundation held its 5K Trail Race and 1-Mile Family Fun Run on the morning of Sunday, Sept. 29.

Runners raced through the trails and fields of Reis Park, Reis Homestead, Van Tassel Memorial Park, Primrose Elementary School and Somers High School. Proceeds of the event will be used to enhance the Somers Library.

The race was presented by the Somers Library Foundation. The organization partners with the Somers Library and was formed two years ago with the intention to help raise money for the library’s needs.

The morning of races began at 9 and included runners of all ages. First, participants in the 5K Trail Race started at the park’s lower field. At 9:30 a.m., participating walkers left the lower field of Reis Park and disappeared into the trails as well.

After all the runners had crossed the finish line in the park’s upper field, a brief awards ceremony took place on the park stage and the race’s winners were presented trophies.
Guy Benn of Sleepy Hollow finished first.
